A second BCMC junction comes soon after. From here it is a relentless climb of stairs, roots and rock, with markers at each quarter. At the quarter marker, about 900 m in, decide honestly whether to continue. Turning back is easy here and much harder later. The halfway sign comes at about 1.4 km. Past a small waterfall you reach the three-quarter mark at about 2.1 km. The last stretch eases slightly before you pop out at the chalet near the top of the Skyride. "route_detail": "From the Buntzen Lake parking lot, follow gravel paths northeast past the off-leash area and onto the forest trail along the east shore. A lookout over the lake comes at about 1 km, followed by easy switchbacks. The trail climbs to touch Powerhouse Road near the Coquitlam Lake tunnel, then drops to North Beach, where you cross the suspension bridge. Turn right, keep right at the Lakeview Trail junction, and at about 4.8 km turn left away from the shore; the Diez Vistas Trail proper starts just after. A steep climb leads to the first, somewhat overgrown viewpoint, and a wide lookout at about 8.4 km gives the best view over Indian Arm. At the fork near 9.3 km go right and descend steeply to rejoin Punta del Este Trail. Carry straight under the powerlines and past the Horseshoe Trail, then cross the floating bridge and head north to the lot, about 12.3 km in total.",

Head back to the junction and follow the wide gravel path northeast toward the Chief, past the gondola base, where Sea to Summit markers start appearing every 50 m or so. Cross Olesen Creek, then turn right onto the busy Chief Peaks Trail for a hard climb up wooden stairs. About 1.9 km in, branch right toward the gondola and Upper Falls; the crowds thin and the grade eases as you pass under the gondola line to a Howe Sound viewpoint. A steep, rocky stretch follows, with a short spur down to the Upper Falls around 3.5 km (stay well back from the edge). Rest on the rocky bluff near 4 km, then join the Shannon Basin logging road and turn left onto the steeper direct route. Fixed ropes help on a final granite pitch before you reach the gondola summit at about 6.7 km. Ride the gondola down or retrace the trail.",

"route_detail": "From the top of the Skyride, walk to the bottom of the Peak Chair and follow the gravel path around the grizzly bear enclosure. Carry straight north on a gravel road to the Lynn Headwaters info board. At about 1 km the trail leaves the road on the left and becomes a rocky track that climbs. Small paths split and rejoin; generally stay left along the ridge, crossing a metal water pipe a few times. At a cairn, go left onto the ridge trail, then at a signed junction take the longer left branch to Dam Mountain. Dam Mountain, at about 2.2 km, is a fine turnaround if you are short on time. Otherwise continue north along the ridge, dropping and climbing toward Goat. The last climb up Goat Mountain is steep with a chain or rope section. At the top you get views in every direction, from Mount Baker to the peaks of Garibaldi. Return the same way.",

"route_detail": "Climb the wooden stairs off Lynn Valley Road onto the Baden Powell Trail. Mountain bike trails cross constantly, so follow the Baden Powell markers and keep generally west. At 1 km cross Mountain Highway, a busy bike route, then follow the trail up through forest beside Thames Creek. Keep on past the Cascades Trail and two big green water tanks to Mosquito Creek at about 4.7 km, where several trails meet. You can bail out here. Otherwise climb the switchbacks west of the creek past Skyline Drive and continue through forest to the Grouse Mountain base area.",

"route_detail": "Climb from Panorama Drive onto the Baden Powell Trail, crossing creeks on bridges and boardwalks. At 1.7 km a short spur on the right leads to Quarry Rock, a granite lookout over Deep Cove and Indian Arm. Many people stop here and return. To continue, go back to the main trail and head north. Cross a gravel clearing under the power lines, a maintenance road, and then Francis Creek near Indian River Drive. The trail climbs to the Mount Seymour Parkway area, then makes a steep rocky descent to the Seymour River around the halfway mark. Poles help here.
