route in detail

From Cypress downhill area, walk past the lodge to the Yew Lake / Baden-Powell sign, pass the Black chair base, then turn uphill on the steep Baden-Powell west of the ski runs. Past a small lake, a stone staircase leads to a junction: right goes by boardwalk to Cabin Lake and the Black Mountain summit; left continues on the Baden-Powell between subalpine lakes (Owen, Cougar Lakes group, Turtle Lake) through heather meadows to Eagle Bluff, with views over Horseshoe Bay, Howe Sound and the city. Return the same way.

Watch for: Stiff, sustained climb. Go after snowmelt; bluffs have drop-offs.

Best season: Best June to October

good to know cam

Hi, I'm Cam Appleton. I love Vancouver and I love getting out on its trails. When I went looking for a simple, easy hiking guide for around here, I couldn't find one I liked. I also really like helping people, so I built this one.

My day job is real estate. I help people buy, sell and lease. I hope you're enjoying the start of Hike Vancouver. If you're thinking about living closer to trails like this one, I'm happy to talk.
