route in detail

From White Pine Beach in Belcarra park, find the signed Buntzen Ridge Trail at the northeast end of the vehicle loop. It crosses a powerline and switchbacks steeply through tall second growth to meet Sugar Mountain Trail; go left up to Pipeline Pass where it meets Diez Vistas Trail. Optional: climb about 150 m more to the first Diez Vistas bluff over Sasamat Lake, Bedwell Bay and Indian Arm. Return on Sugar Mountain Trail to the White Pine road, then walk the Sasamat lakeshore and floating walkway back.

safety notes

Steep switchbacks; the full Diez Vistas traverse is a much longer (about 6 h) commitment, so turn back at the first viewpoint. Sugar Mountain Trail is equestrian.

good to know cam

Hi, I'm Cam Appleton. I love Vancouver and I love getting out on its trails. When I went looking for a simple, easy hiking guide for around here, I couldn't find one I liked. I also really like helping people, so I built this one.

My day job is real estate. I help people buy, sell and lease. I hope you're enjoying the start of Hike Vancouver. If you're thinking about living closer to trails like this one, I'm happy to talk.
